Smart is a mainly European car brand that recently made its way to the United States.

The one model that Smart manufactures in the U.S. is the compact Fourtwo. The Fourtwo comes in three trim levels: Pure, Passion, and BRABUS. The Passion and BRABUS models are both available as convertibles as well.

The Fourtwo's extremely small size means great fuel economy and an affordable price. The base model gets 36 miles per gallon and starts at around $11,000 new, but will go for less on the used market.

Since Smart only recently made its American debut, there is not yet a pre-owned certified program started by the company, although Smart operates such programs in other markets, so it's not out of the question as the brand expands.

Smart also offers "Expressions," a mixture of custom paint jobs and decals designed to customize each vehicle. While these options often have a negative effect on resale value, they could mean a huge discount for buyers who find a Smart car on the used market. If a dealership cannot sell a Smart for this reason, it could mean a knockdown in price.
