Ford has decided
to discontinue the
Mercury brand, meaning that the only place that drivers will be able to
find these vehicles in the near future is on the used car market.
There are several Mercury models that drivers may be intrigued by. The
Milan is Mercury's base sedan and is based off of Ford's successful Fusion
model. Those shopping for used
Milans should keep their eyes peeled for added features like Ford's Sync
connectivity system and Sirius satellite radio, both of which can enhance the car's
value.
Mercury also made two SUV models, the
Mariner and the
Mountaineer. The Mountaineer was the brand's full-size luxury SUV while
the
Mariner offered drivers a slightly smaller option with similar perks at
a reduced price.
One of the reasons that
Mercury was ended was that it cut a middle path between Ford's basic brand
and its luxury
Lincoln
nameplate. The Grand Marquis is a good example of that. Though the car was popular
as a full-size sedan for many years, it was deemed too similar to some of Ford's
Lincoln vehicles. Thus drivers should keep in mind that the ending of Mercury doesn't
reflect the vehicles' overall quality, but a business decision by Ford. This also
means that some used car dealers and buyers may undervalue the vehicles, which are
still supported through Ford's pre-owned program.
Drivers may also come across the Montego and Sable sedans, both of which were discontinued
before Ford made the decision to end the brand.
