The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV that has been in production since 2000. In 2004, the automaker began offering a hybrid version of this vehicle, which became the industry's first hybrid SUV.

The Escape has three motor options for customers, the first of which is a 2.5-liter Duratec I-4 engine, mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. It generates 171 hp at 6,000 rpm and 171 lb-ft torque at 4,500 rpm. In terms of fuel economy, drivers can expect 20-23 city mpg and 26-28 highway mpg.
Other options include the 3.0-liter V6 engine with front- or four-wheel drive generating 240 hp, or the 2.5-liter I-4 permanent-magnet electric motor. The latter of the two is a hybrid that produces 177 hp and receives 30-34 city and 27-31 highway mpg.

Beginning at $21,060, the SUV is available in five trim levels - XLS, XLT, Limited, Hybrid and Hybrid Limited. Equipment highlights include a power moonroof, voice-activated communcations and entertainment system, rearview camera for backup assistance, satellite radio and leather seating.
