Volvo
Volvo is a Swedish luxury car manufacturer known worldwide for its focus on safety.
The original Volvo is a diverse manufacturer that also makes heavy industry equipment
for trucks, airlines, and buses. Volvo sold the car division of its company to Ford
in 1999, while maintaining the rest of its divisions as a separate company. Ford
is currently in the process of selling Volvo to Geely Motors in China.
The company is renowned for its safety innovations, including features that have
become federally mandated standards, such as brake lights. Volvo makes unique optional
features available on its newer models to those who want a safe vehicle, including
a Personal Car Communicator that uses a heartbeat sensor to alert a driver if someone
is hiding in the car. Another new feature available is a collision detection system
that automatically stops the car on a dime at low speeds if an accident is imminent.
The current fleet includes four models, the XC (crossover), V (wagon), C (coupe/convertible),
and S (sedan). From there, the company uses a numeric nomenclature to denote the
size of the vehicle. For example, the S40, S60, and S80 are Volvo's compact, mid-size,
and full-size sedans respectively.
