Subaru
Subaru is the automotive division of Japan's massive Fuji Heavy Industries and is
currently in a limited partnership with Toyota.
Subaru is the only manufacturer to win the governments "Top Safety Pick" award for
all six of the vehicles in its fleet. Additionally, all of their models are certified
as low emissions vehicles. Subaru cars tend to use "boxer" engines, which are a
different way of arranging the pistons to achieve greater stability.
The Impreza is Subaru's compact car, and is available in either the standard or
high-performance WRX version. Subaru also offers the car as a hatchback. The model
has been offered since 1993 and is one of the few cars in its class to offer all-wheel
drive standard.
The Legacy, however, is Subaru's true flagship car. A mid-size sedan, this car has
been in production for over two decades and is currently in its fifth generation.
The Outback is Subaru's crossover version of the Legacy, and won Motor Trend's Sport/Utility
of the year for 2010. Subaru also makes the slightly-larger Forester and full-size
Tribeca, which features seating for seven.
