Scion
Scion is a relatively new brand owned by Toyota and aimed at a younger generation
of car drivers. Founded in 2002, Scions are known for their unique designs and large
customization community that specializes in aftermarket parts and accessories.
The current Scion lineup contains three models: the xB, tC, and xD. The xB is probably
the most recognizable model that Scion makes, due to its box-like design. The xB
was one of the original Scion cars, along with the xA. While the company had expected
the xA to be the company's flagship model, the xB proved to be a more popular choice,
outselling the xA almost two-to-one, partly due to its standing as an alternative
choice to larger minivans.
The tC is Scion's coupe offering, and has gained popularity among car tuners. Rather
than offering packages of options at the dealer, Scion instead sells individual
aftermarket parts and accessories, some made by Toyota and others made by third-party
companies. This allows owners to customize the vehicles without voiding the warranties.
The tC became popular among performance junkies because Toyota offered a supercharger
accessory that pushed the engine up over 200 horsepower at an affordable price,
though the automaker discontinued the part in 2007.
Toyota's latest addition to the fleet is the xD, a five-door compact hatchback that
replaced the xA. Scion will also add the microcar iQ in early 2011.
