Maserati
Maserati is an Italian manufacturer of exotic cars, currently owned by Fiat Group.
Maseratis have only recently begun to be sold in the U.S. market, but the United
States has quickly become the company's largest customer group.
The company's current offerings are based off of two main models. The Quattroporte
("four-door" in Italian) is the company's flagship high-end sedan, and is focused
more on luxury and elegance than performance, although it does boast a 4.2 liter
V8 with 400 horsepower. Maserati also offers an "S" version of the vehicle that
upgrades the engine to 4.7 liters and 440 horses.
This engine is borrowed from the company's true supercar, the GranTurismo S. The
GranTurismo is also available as a convertible, dubbed the GranCabrio. The convertible
and base version of the GranTurismo use the same 400 horsepower engine as the base
Quattroporte, but outperform the vehicle due to their smaller size.
Maserati is well-known as a racing staple, and its MC12 model has enjoyed much success
on the track. In celebration of its numerous victories, Maserati made a very limited
number of these vehicles available to buyers, with less than fifty produced. A conceptual
variant of the car, the Maserati Birdcage, was recently unveiled at an auto show.
Rather than doors, most of the car's front body raises to allow the driver entry,
which Maserati called a "canopy."
