Chrysler
Chrysler is the third of Detroit's "Big Three" Automakers, along with GM and Ford.
It recently accepted government bailout money in the wake of the economic downturn
and is looking to revitalize its business. As part of this deal, Italian automaker
Fiat acquired a 20 percent stake in the company. Chrysler also owns the Dodge and
Jeep brands.
Unlike GM, Chrysler also manufactures a brand of cars known as Chryslers. The current
fleet has five models. The Sebring is Chrysler's mid-size sedan, also offered as
the Sebring two-door convertible, designated by Chrysler as a separate model. Chrysler's
full-size sedan is the 300.
Chrysler also makes the PT Cruiser, which is a somewhat unique and immediately recognizable
vehicle. It comes in 4-door sedan/hatchback and 2-door coupe/convertible models.
Finally, Chrysler has made the Town and Country minivan since 1990, one of its more
successful models. The Chrysler brand does not currently have an SUV in its lineup,
leaving those to Dodge and Jeep.
At a 2010 auto show, Chrysler unveiled its version of the Lancia Delta, made by
Fiat. Should this car go into production, it will give Chrysler a small crossover
SUV. No official name or details have been announced.
