Chevrolet
Chevrolet, commonly referred to as Chevy, is General Motor's main and best-selling
brand.
Chevy offers a full range of trucks, SUVs, cars and vans. It is famous for its legendary
Camaro and Corvette muscle cars, both of which are currently offered with modern
designs and features. The Chevy line of pickups, including the Avalanche, Silverado,
and Colorado have consistently won praise and awards from the automotive press.
The Malibu and Impala are Chevy's mid-size and full-size sedans, respectively.
However, the big news about Chevy may not be its current lineup, but its future
one, as GM attempts to mount a comeback following its government bailout. The industry
is buzzing about the Chevy Volt, one of the first plug-in hybrids to be marketed
in the U.S. The Volt is significant because it will be the first mass-produced car
to be powered exclusively by an electric motor.
A full charge propels the car 40 miles, after which a small 4-cylinder gas generator
kicks in. However, rather than using this engine to power the car, the generator
actually recharges the motor, making the Volt all-electric.
The company also plans to introduce the Chevy Cruze later this year, as a replacement
for the outgoing Cobalt.
