Buick

The title of the oldest American automobile manufacturer belongs to Buick. Buick got its start in 1899 in Detroit, and is the reason the American auto industry is largely focused there. It is currently a division of General Motors, who markets the cars as entry-level luxury vehicles.

Buick currently has four models in its fleet: the Enclave crossover SUV, Regal sports sedan, Lucerne full-size sedan, and LaCrosse mid-size sedan.

GM considered selling off or eliminating Buick a few years ago, but opted to axe the Pontiac and Saturn brands instead. That proved to be a smart choice, as Buick's introduction of the 2010 LaCrosse has reinvigorated the brand. Sales have have been strong and critics have favorably compared the LaCrosse to other entry-level luxury models. Buick may open new manufacturing operations to keep up with the high demand.

In 2011, Buick will introduce a redesigned Regal, which will shortly be followed by the Regal GS option, Buick's first performance-oriented vehicle in some time. The GS will come with a supercharger and be offered with a manual transmission. The company also plans to introduce a hybrid version of the Regal shortly after.

In addition, GM has announced plans to make the first electric SUV a Buick, based on its Chevy Volt technology.
