BMW
The BMW brand is one of the world's most easily-recognized luxury car manufacturers.
Founded in Germany, BMW originally made airplane engines before restrictions after
World War I forced them to switch to automobiles.
Since then, the company has enjoyed success and popularity as a worldwide brand.
BMW numbers their models to indicate the size of the vehicle. Each basic car is
customizable with a wide variety of features, but the overarching model is referred
to as a series - for example, the 5 Series or the 3 Series.
BMW's flagship is the 7 Series, which is a full-size luxury sedan. Most of BMW's
innovations are first debuted with the sedan, like 7 Series Hydrogen, which is the
world's first production-ready hydrogen-powered vehicle. While it has yet to be
manufactured worldwide, several hundred cars have been built, which BMW has loaned
to select executives.
iDrive is another feature that debuted on the 7 Series and is now available on most
of BMW's models. This onboard computer system handles the car's secondary features
and integrates accessories like iPods.
The M Series goes beyond the traditionally numbered models and offers drivers higher-performance.
The series has been well-received among consumer guides, and it's top-of-the-line
engines have won several awards. "M" upgrades are available on the 3 and 6 Series,
as well as the X5 SUV.
