Audi
The Audi brand has a long and storied history. The German company was originally
founded in 1909 by August Horch. Horch was forced out of the company and started
another car business, only to later merge with Audi and two other auto companies
to form Auto Union in 1932. This is the source of the four interlocked rings in
Audi's logo.
Eventually, Auto Union was bought by Volkswagen in 1964, who resurrected the Audi
name. Volkswagen still owns the company today, operating it as a wholly-owned subsidiary.
Audi has enjoyed success as of late, with sales rising steadily in the new millennium.
The company makes models in all sizes, but its flagship is the A4, which comes as
both a sedan and wagon.
Following an alphanumeric system, the company changes letters to indicate higher-performance
vehicles - an S4 is a souped up A4, and an RS4 is the top performing model in that
class. The company also uses the term "quattro" to designate models developed by
its subisdiary, quattro GmbH.
Fans of the brand might have noticed that the company's R8 Spyder sports convertible
was recently featured as Tony Stark's vehicle of choice in Iron Man 2, which features
a 5.2 liter V10 engine.
