Acura
Acura, the luxury brand of Japanese automaker Honda, was introduce in 1986 to market
Honda's high-end vehicles to the American market. It holds the distinction of being
the first Japanese luxury brand to make its way to America.
Originally, Acura focused on two models. The Legend was the company's flagship car,
a performance luxury sedan, powered by a V6 engine. The brand also had a sporty
hatchback model dubbed the Integra, which enjoyed success before being discontinued
in 2007.
That changed in the early nineties, when Acura introduced the car it would come
to be associated with for years - the NSX. Standing for "New Sport eXperimental,"
the car was designed as an affordable alternative to Ferrari and Porsche. The nineties
also saw Acura gain popularity with "tuner" enthusiasts, who found the cars to be
easy to modify.
The company's curre6nt flagship is the mid-sized RL, which replaced the original
Legend. The RL has been well-received critically, and is complemented in Acura's
fleet by SUVs like the RDX and compacts like the CSX.
Interestingly, Acura has yet to debut in Japan, only being sold in the U.S., Mexico,
and Canada.
