Wranglers are being investigated for problems with the airbag 06/02/2011
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that it is investigating both the Nissan Altima and the Jeep Wrangler for possible safety hazards.
The Associated Press reports that there have been complaints of problems with the airbags in the Jeep Wrangler and there could be brake issues with the Altima. On the NHSTA's website it suggests that brake fluids can leak on the Altima, which has the potential to cause stopping power.
The investigation comes after the NHTSA received more than 20 complaints, but the news source reports that none resulted in crashes or injuries.
The Detroit News reports that the investigation on the Wranglers has grown to more than 220,000 models that were made between 2007 and 2008. This comes after the NHTSA received 29 complaints. Of these reports, 23 were clockspring failure and six had an illuminated airbag light.
Most of the complaints were received this year, as 16 consumers were reporting that something was wrong with their airbags. The source reports that a Chrysler spokesperson has not yet responded with a comment.
