Volvo promotes electric vehicle safety with crashed car display 01/12/2011
Most automakers use the Detroit Auto Show as a venue to show off their newest and most appealing developments, but Volvo hopes to demonstrate the safety of its electric cars with a different kind of display, reports the Telegraph.
Because many drivers have expressed concerns about the safety of electric cars in case of an accident, Volvo has set up a display featuring a crashed C30 electric vehicle to show how safe its cars are.
"We are the first car maker in the world to show what a truly safe electric car looks like after a crash," said Stefan Jacoby, president and chief executive officer of Volvo Cars.
Jacoby added that the display was important because it would help both drivers and emergency responders gain a better understanding of safety in electric cars.
The Swedish car company stresses that batteries and cables that carry high voltage must remain intact for passengers to stay safe in case of a crash, so it reportedly subjected the C30 to a crash test to ensure that these important electrical components were not damaged.
