Volvo XC90 vs BMW X3 03/29/2011
The Volvo XC90 and BMW X3 are two of the more popular crossovers on the market, so it might be hard for drivers to choose between the two.
Volvo prices the XC90 at $38,200, while the BMW X3 retails for $36,750. The XC90 is backed by a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty, while the X3 only comes with a 4 year/50,000 pledge.
Horsepower is exactly even between the two vehicles, with both models offering 240 horsepower. The Volvo has slightly better torque at 236 lb-ft, while the X3 only offers 221 lb-ft. However, the X3 does have better fuel economy at 19/26 mpgs, compared to just 16/22 on the XC90. The X3 also holds the edge in terms of transmission, as it features an 8-speed shiftable automatic.
On the interior, the Volvo has slightly better standard options, with satellite radio and parking assistance. Still, the X3 has a better range of optional features available.
Choosing between these two vehicles is a tough call, but we ultimately give the nod to the X3, as it doesn't sacrifice much in either power or features, yet retails for nearly $1,500 less.
