Vehicle choices for a zombie apocalypse 05/20/2011
The Centers for Disease Control recently released a new tongue-in-cheek warning talking about what families should do to prepare for a zombie apocalypse. The cleverly-written piece detailed steps that people could take in the event of an unlikely emergency, such as the dead walking the earth.
In reality, the post was designed to dress up hurricane and natural disaster preparedness in a fresh and exciting way, but it has certainly turned everyone's attention to what might actually happen if the world suddenly went "Dawn of the Dead."
Keeping with the idea of zombie hordes attacking everyone, Fox News recently revealed the best car to survive a zombie apocalypse, and we have to agree with their pick. The limited-edition Knight XV from Conquest Vehicles is the ultimate in survivability. The Knight XV's design is reminiscent of Christopher Nolan's tank-like Batmobile, which would probably be the best car in terms of survivability, if it actually existed.
Sporting full armor, bulletproof windows and a frame twice the size of a Hummer, it's easy to see why the undead would have trouble penetrating this beast. Yet the car isn't just about protection - it's also quite livable. Features like a full bar and a full-screen TV that receives satellite signals means you won't have to venture out into the world too often.
Only about 100 Knight XVs are being produced for the public, and the car retails for $300,000, so its probably not the most practical choice.
On the other hand there are some vehicles that would be quite bad in a zombie apocalypse - namely, convertibles. Hard-tops might be okay, but anyone who has ever seen a zombie movie knows that a flesh-eater will punch through that soft-top in about five seconds. And if you've got the top down, well, you better drive fast.
