Kia Motors America (KMA) gave the world premiere of its 2012 Rio sub-compact sedan during the New York International Auto Show.
According to OC Metro, the model will be available for the company's fall lineup as a sedan option for Kia's hatchback Rio. Company executives noted that high gas prices are on a number of consumers' minds, which is why it was important to deliver options that offer good fuel economy, which is 40 mpg highway.
"The all-new Rio brings Kia's successful combination of world-class styling, outstanding fuel economy, advanced technologies and tremendous value to the smallest and most economical vehicle in the Kia lineup," Michael Sprague, vice president of marketing and communications for KMA, told the news provider.
Motor Trend Magazine reports that the 1.6-L Gamma engine achieves 138 hp and also features 123 lb-ft of torque, which is an increase of 28 hp and 16 lb-ft from the company's previous sedan model. Proving to be environmentally friendly, 85 percent of the Rio's materials are recyclable and the seats are made of a soy-based foam.
