The Lamborghini Aventador is only available with an automatic transmission. 08/15/2011
Lamborghini's future is shaping up to be entirely automatic. Gone are the days of manual transmission, and a majority of Lambo drivers are opting for automatic systems anyway. The 2012 Aventador doesn't even have the option for stick shift, and neither will the new car that replaces the Gallardo, Motor Trend reports.
"You can't rely on a driver to always shift gears without glitches," Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini's research and development director, told Motor Trend. "But you can count on next year's replacement for the now-year-old Gallardo to come only with an automated transmission."
The cost to the Italian automaker to build manual and automatic transmissions is nearly indistinguishable, but Reggiani states that less than 2 percent of the new cars rolling out of the Lamborghini factory in Bologna have manual transmissions.
Some drivers may argue that stick shift allows them to have more control over the engine, but the Aventador, which only comes in automatic, can still fly from 0 to 60 in less than three seconds and can reach speeds over 200 miles per hour, according to Top Speed. So, maybe offering only automatic transmissions isn't such a bad idea.
