The Lamborghini Aventador is lightweight but still races from 0 to 60 in under three seconds. 06/15/2011
Ferrari and Lamborghini are among the many high-end car companies that have unveiled new cars for 2012. The two exotic carmakers will each release new cars for sale with similar, hefty price tags, but consumers may not want to apply for a new car loan just yet. Both the Ferrari FF and the Lamborghini Anventador LP700-4 are already sold out for 2011, reports TopSpeed.com. Lamborghini will be making fewer than 700 of its new model each year, while Ferrari will be producing 800 FF's annually.

The 2012 Ferrari FF seats four, and offers four-wheel drive so it can be taken out for a spin regardless of the weather. With its 12-cylinder engine, the Ferrari Four is capable of reaching 651 horsepower and can reach speeds of approximately 60 miles per hour (mph) in less than four seconds, reports Car and Driver. The two-door shooting brake, or station wagon, is less than five feet tall and weighs around two tons.

Lamborghini's Aventador boasts a V12 engine as well, but weight about half a ton less than the Ferrari FF due to its carbon fiber frame. In October 2010, Lamborghini executives announced that they would be using the material for the first time in automotive production.

"It's less about increasing the power and more about decreasing the weight of the car," Stephan Winklemann, the CEO of Lamborghini, told Wired.com about the use of the lightweight material. The company states that it is using carbon fiber for the first time in the automotive field.

The lightweight material does not take away much of the power from the Aventador, as it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. The new Lambo also comes standard with the Italian car company's trademark scissor doors and is priced at $379,700.
