The Kia Sorento has helped boost sales 05/06/2011
April proved to be a busy month for automakers, as many consumers took to the lot to find smaller vehicles that would help them deal with the rising gas prices.

One of the most surprising boosts in sales this past month? Kia Motors America. BusinessWeek reports that the automaker saw a 57 percent increase from the previous year, particularly in thanks to the 41 percent growth of sales for its Sorento model.

The news provider reports that Kia sold more than 47,000 vehicles last month, which was a large spike from the more than 30,000 sold the previous year. While the Sorento was the main bread winner, the Sportage, Optima and Soul all saw more than double the amount of sales in comparison to last year.

Automobile Magazine reports that although there was a decrease in sales for the Rio subcompact, Kia executives are hopeful that this will turn around following the release of the all-new 2012 model, which is set to debut later this year and is already generating a lot of buzz.
