Subaru to stage global debut of 'Toyobaru' sports concept in Geneva 01/20/2011
Subaru has announced its plans to unveil its new Rear-Wheel Drive Sports Car Technology Concept at the Geneva Auto Show in March of this year, reports Torque News.
The concept, which is known as the Toyobaru due to its being jointly developed by Subaru and fellow Japanese carmaker Toyota, is reportedly based on a brand new platform. The car was designed to show how Subaru's trademark horizontally opposed boxer engine can be applied to a sporty, rear-wheel drive format.
In addition to the Toyobaru, Subaru will also use the Geneva Auto Show to stage the European debut of its new Impreza Concept. The new Impreza, which recently received great acclaim at the Detroit Auto Show, will also use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder horizontally opposed boxer engine.
The Impreza's exterior design makes it the first new vehicle to embody Subaru's new design strategy. Termed "Confidence in Motion," the strategy replaces the automaker's previous conservative styling with a sleeker, sportier profile.
Subaru will also bring its Trezia concept to Geneva. The Trezia, a compact wagon, was designed to address the demand for small and environmentally friendly cars in the European market.
