Subaru Outback vs Volkswagen Tiguan 03/29/2011
There are many affordable crossover options on the market today, which can make choosing between them a bit difficult. The Subaru Outback and Volkswagen Tiguan may not be the best selling vehicles in the country, but they both offer drivers good features for the price. So which is the better buy?

The Outback is slightly cheaper at $23,195, while the Tiguan is priced at $23,720. Both come with the industry standard 5 year/60,000 mile warranty.

Both vehicles offer four-cylinder engines, but the Volkswagen has a bit more power. Drivers will enjoy 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque on the Tiguan, but only 170 horsepower and 170 lb-ft on the Outback. Subaru only offers a marginal fuel efficiency upgrade, with 1 extra mpg on the city and highway.

Since both models are on the low end of the price range for SUVs, the interiors are sparse for these two vehicles. Most features are only available on more expensive trim levels, although the Tiguan does feature Bluetooth connectivity standard.

This is a close call, but ultimately The Tiguan's power boost for just a slightly higher price gives it the edge over the well-designed Outback.
