Shia LaBeouf won't be the only person with a black and yellow Camaro when Chevrolet starts producing special edition Transformers Camaros in August. 06/28/2011
Michael Bay’s latest installment of the Transformers movie series, Dark of the Moon, hits theaters on June 29. The film, like its predecessors, is jam-packed with General Motors cars, but the Chevrolet Camaro is probably the most well-known car in the trilogy.
Bumblebee, the Autobot who pals around with Shia LaBeouf’s character, will soon be available for Transformers fans, sort of. Chevrolet recently announced that it will be offering a special edition upgrade to its 2012 Camaro 2SS and 2LT for an additional $3,000.
The 2012 Camaro Transformers Special Edition is unfortunately not an actual alien robot, but it does include a Rally Yellow paint job with a black rally stripes that stretch from the hood to the deck lid, just like Bumblebee’s iconic coloration.
The special edition also comes with Autobot shield logos on the front panels and center caps of the wheels, which will be painted black, as well as on the head rests and center console. The interior of the new car will also have bright yellow stitching on the steering wheel, door panels, seats, dashboard and center console.
Camaro’s SS features a 6.2-liter V8 engine and buyers have the option to upgrade to a manual transmission with launch control that gives the car a real 0 to 60 punch. Inside Line reports that in its tests, the American muscle car hit 60 miles per hour in 5.1 seconds.
Chevrolet’s special edition of the Camaro will only be available for a limited time, so if you’re a Transformers fan, you may want to start thinking about buying a new car. The upgrade is available now and Chevrolet states that it will begin production in August.
