Porsche is in the process of creating a new vehicle 03/29/2011
German car company Porsche recently revealed that it was currently in the process of creating a new automobile. The vehicle is said to be a mid-engine "supercar," according to Edmunds Inside Line.
The firm claims that the new car may replace the Carrera GT and be placed between its 911 and 918 Spyder models. In addition, Porsche has already said that the "supercar" will cost more than $200,000 and will compete against the Ferrari 458 Italia and McLaren MP4-12C, Autocar reported.
U.S. consumers can purchase the Ferrari for approximately $225,000 and the 911 Turbo S is priced around $160,000. The new Porsche would also compete against Audi's R8 GT, which is also costs $200,000. However, the Spyder, which only has 918 units in production, sells for $845,000.
"We're looking to extend the range," Mathias Muller, the automaker's CEO, told Autocar. "We've got an idea to do another midengine model. We're thinking above the 911, but below the 918 Spyder."
Although engine specifications are not confirmed, there are a number of powertrain options the car could have, including those similar to the Spyder's V8 motor or the 5.2-liter V10 engine in the Audi R8 GT that can produce 560 hp, Edmunds reported.
