People will be able to test drive Porsches on racetracks 05/13/2011
As Porsche continued to spread its presence in the U.S., individuals in the Atlanta area will surely notice the brand's new headquarters at the city's airport.
However, this is not typical headquarters for a car company. As the brand is known for its fast vehicles, Porsche is building a 1.6 mile race track at the Atlanta airport where the planes fly right over the track, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"It will be absolutely unique," Detlev von Platen, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Porsche Cars North America, told the news provider. "It will be much more than a headquarters."
The race track will be used by potential Porsche customers who want to have the chance to test drive a vehicle, and the news provider reports that executives expect 20,000 people to visit each year.
Porsche has experienced a significant surge in sales recently. In a news release, it was reported that North American sales were up 33 percent last year in comparison to 2009.
