No telling whether or not the car will go into full production 04/25/2011
In an effort to try new things with the brand, Toyota Motor Corporation has announced the new FR-S concept car for its Scion division.

The Associated Press reports that although the new car, which is based on the AE86 version of the Corolla, may not go into full production, Jack Hollis, the vice president of Scion, said that there is no doubt in his mind that if the FR-S is not built, a model very similar to it will be.

Hollis was also quick to point out that he was aware the new car does not exactly fit the typical youth-geared vehicles of the Scion brand, but noted that the company wanted to experiment with new offerings.

"We can't continue to say Scion is a lab for trying things if we don't try things," he said.

Wired reports that the new vehicle features a long hood and rear-wheel drive, which is in line with Akio Toyoda's passion for race cars, as he himself is an avid driver. Although the power has not been specified, the car will come with a 2.0-L boxer engine.
