Nissan Sentra vs Mazda3 01/25/2011
There are all sorts of options available for drivers in the market for a new car, but most will still gravitate toward moderately-priced sedans. While models like the Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry receive lots of attention in this regard, there are also some nicely-priced options from less-popular brands that don't necessarily get a lot of play.
The Nissan Sentra and Mazda3 are two prime examples of this trend. Both of these cars are available for under $16,000, with the Sentra coming in at $15,540 and the Mazda3 at $15,800. While these two models are close in many respects, one offers slightly more value than the other.
In terms of performance, each car has its strengths and weaknesses. The Mazda3 boasts 148 horsepower, which slightly outclasses the Sentra's 140. However, the Sentra has more torque, with 147 lb-ft compared to 135 on the Mazda. Both vehicles feature manual transmission, but the Sentra's features six speeds while the Mazda3 only offers five.
As budget cars, the interiors of both vehicles are rather sparse when it comes to features, with many of them only available on pricier trim levels.
In the end, both models are extremely similar, but we give the slight edge to the Sentra, as it starts out cheaper while offering more torque.
