New models of the Chevy Cruze are being recalled 05/06/2011
In an effort to err on the side of caution when it comes to drivers, General Motors (GM) reports that it is recalling the popular Chevrolet Cruze due to possible steering problems.

Auto Week reports that GM is recalling more than 154,000 Chevy Cruze's to check for problems with the steering shaft. Although no accidents have occurred due to this problem, the issue was brought to light when a driver lost his or her steering control in a parking lot.

CNN reports that all of the vehicles being recalled were made in 2011 and were built in a Lordstown, Ohio, plant. Company executives said that they were playing it safe in the event case there is a major issue with the steering.

"We think very few vehicles in the population have either issue, but we chose to conduct these inspections to give customers additional peace of mind about the quality of the Cruze," Terry Woychowski, GM vice president of global quality, told the news provider. "I conducted a quality inspection of the Lordstown plant this week, and I am confident we have made the necessary process changes so neither of these conditions happens again."
