New York Fashion Week will have a unique model this year, as Gucci will unveil its collaboration with Fiat for the "500 by Gucci" to the American market. The custom subcompact car was modified by the Italian fashion designer to commemorate the Italian automaker's 90th anniversary, according to Car and Driver. Gucci has designed bags, clothing and driving and travel accessories to match the new car, which has been designed in both black and white models.
"With Gucci as our design partner, we’ve amplified the Italian style of our Fiat 500 with unique exterior and interior looks that will make the car truly unique on the road," Laura Soave, head of Fiat brand in North America, told Forbes. "This special edition adds dimension to the Fiat 500 portfolio and will appeal to North American customers who appreciate Italian style just as much as modern technology, value and fuel efficiency."
The designer cars feature a stripe of green and red under the windows that wraps around the back of the car from the driver's door to the passenger side. That same stripe finds its way onto the upholstery inside the new cars as well. Affixed to the door panels and the hatchback will be chrome Gucci logos, so other drivers know the car is at the very height of fashion, as well as being economical and fuel-efficient.
The fashionable Fiat will be available for sale in America by December, and has already gone on sale in Europe for about €17,000, which is roughly $24,600. The starting price for a standard 500 is roughly around $15,000, but Gucci fans will likely have no problem dishing out the extra ten grand for the designer version.
