More than 200,000 cars are recalled by Chrysler  03/04/2011
Chrysler recently announced that it would be recalling 248,437 from the 2010 model year, such as Dodge Avenger, Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee. The reason behind the requested return is an issue with the electrical system ignition, which may affect the engine, making it stop running according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The car company said it has received 32 grievances from its customers and 465 warranty claims about the vehicle's engine unexpectedly shutting down while driving. Additionally, Chrysler claims it knows about "two alleged rear-end collisions arising from the condition."

"Some vehicles may experience inadvertent ignition key displacement from the run to accessory position while driving, causing the engine to shut off," the NHTSA said in a statement. "Engine shutoff while driving could increase the risk of a crash."

Chrysler also claims that the malfunctions are caused by the key fob, if it becomes released when the car is started it sets the ACC detent in the wrong position and forces the car to turn off, according to Edmunds Inside Line.

The recall will start in April and Chrysler and Dodge dealers will replace the necessary parts.
