Mitsubishi announces plans to introduce new B-car by 2012
Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi is attempting to carve out a stake in a new realm of the auto industry with the recent announcement of a new B-class subcompact to be introduced by 2012, MotorTrend Magazine is reporting.
Dubbed the Concept-CX, the new hatchback is seen as direct competition for other sporty subcompacts like the Cooper Mini, Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Chevrolet Aveo, the Ford Fiesta and the forthcoming Fiat 500.
Mitsubishi hopes to make the CX its core product, and may alter the vehicle's name to the Colt prior to its release in the American market.
While details on the CX are few and far between, preliminary images taken from the New York International Auto Show suggest that the vehicle will be a four-door hatchback with a long, elegant hood leading to two deep-set halogen lights interrupted by the automakers trademark grill.
The company will also revamp its high-performance Evolution racing platform for the B-class segment as well, suggesting that the new Colt may be one of the faster subcompacts on the road.
