Mercedes is long associated with luxury 05/06/2011
There's that famous Ricky Bobby line from the underappreciated "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" - "I want to go fast." Fewer quotes have applied to so many people, as a number of individuals look to purchase cars that have the capabilities of a race car. While you may not have the chance to get behind the wheel of a real race car, the Mercedes SLS Roadster is looking to fill that void.

Although numerous pictures have been released before, Mercedes released official photographs of the car that they've been working on for the past three years. Auto Guide reports that the not only does this car drive fast, but even its capabilities are at lightning speed. For example, the vehicle's top has the ability to be opened or closed in 11 seconds at the speed of 31 mph.

If you're impressed by that, the car itself has the capability to reach 197 mph and is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine.

While the car is still undergoing testing in Germany, it will reportedly be debuted during the Frankfurt auto show this September. The photographs that were released by Mercedes shows the car speeding on a racetrack as part of its testing, clearly appealing to consumers who love to put the pedal to the metal.

USA Today reports that Mercedes engineers are also looking at the capabilities of the vehicles soft top, paying close attention to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

"Whether open or closed, even at top speed, there must be no intrusive flapping, booming, hissing, clattering, whistling or howling," the company said in a statement.
