Mercedes-Benz recalls its M-Class series 04/07/2011
German auto company Mercedes-Benz recently announced that it will be recalling 136,751 of its M-Class and M-Class AMG vehicles made in the 2000-2002 model years. The reason for the requested return is due to a problem with the cruise control, reported the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The car manufacturer claims that it issued the recall because customers were complaining that they had to use a strong force to disconnect the cruise control. One consumer filed a complaint and said that his 2002 Mercedes-Benz ML500's cruise control would only stop working by "putting the transmission into neutral and depressing the brake."
"Mercedes-Benz has determined that under certain circumstances, use of the brake pedal may not automatically disengage cruise control as expected by the driver, although the other means of deactivating cruise control remain fully operative," the government agency said.
Divers who have a car that is impacted by the defect can take their vehicle to their Mercedes-Benz dealer, who install a new brake lamp switch. The recall will start in September.
