Mazda CX-9 vs Hyundai Veracruz 04/07/2011
Mazda and Hyundai are typically known as companies that make affordable vehicles under $20,000, but recently both automakers have been offering some higher-priced models. The Hyundai Veracruz and Mazda CX-9 are two examples of crossovers that might have more in common with entry-level luxury vehicles than budget cars.

The CX-9 retails for $29,135, while the Veracruz is priced at $28,345. Hyundai backs its model with a 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty, while Mazda offers a 5 year/60,000 mile pledge.

These two vehicles are very close in the performance department, but the CX-9 is ultimately the winner, producing 273 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. The Veracruz is a hair slower at 260 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque. Mazda's vehicle also gets 2 extra mpgs on the highway.

One thing we like about the CX-9 is its standard dual climate control, a rare feature on many crossovers. However, we think the Veracruz ultimately offers the nicer experience, as it comes with parking assistance and heated power seats.

This is a close call, but we give the edge to the Hyundai Veracruz. It's only a step behind in performance, but it offers a nicer interior and longer warranty for a cheaper price.
