Many may not realize Dempsey's passion for racing 05/18/2011
Some celebrities can't help but want to try their prowess on the racetrack. While there are several celebrity auto races that some actors hope will bring them back from the island of obscurity (they know who they are), others may have a genuine interest in the sport. Let's get real, you're not going to just sit on your millions and millions of dollars, you're going to spend it on fun things that will allow you to live out your childhood fantasies.
Patrick Dempsey is one of those individuals who puts his money where his mouth is. Dempsey is an avid racer, having competed in a number of tournaments. He even has his own team – Dempsey Racing – where he's a driver along with Joe Foster, James Gue, Charles Espenlaub and Dane Cameron.
However, Dempsey's hobby turned out to be potentially dangerous recently. E! News reports that the Grey's Anatomy actor was driving a Mazda RX-8 during a final practice run of the Bosch Engineering 250 at the Virginia International Raceway when another car lost control and slid onto the grass before hitting Dempsey.
Dempsey was unharmed in the accident, but the Mazda could not say the same. The news provider reports that the RX-8 needed extensive front end and radiator repairs.
According to 790 KGMI, Dempsey's racing team typically competes in Grand American Road Racing Association (Grand-Am) events across the country, which gives us a feeling that this little setback will not deter him from continuing to follow his racing dreams. Of course, we'll bet that Grey's Anatomy fans are hoping he doesn't do anything to that megawatt smile.
