Many automakers are interested in the new Lotus Hybrid engine 03/23/2011
There were several hybrid and electric vehicles that appeared at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show earlier this month and a number of automakers have taken notice to the trend and plan to make their own environmentally friendly vehicles.

Lotus Engineering recently said that three major car companies are interested in their hybrid engines, which debuted at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show, according to Edmunds Inside Line.

The company revised its three-cylinder gasoline engine, which can achieve between 1,500 and 3,500 rpm. The motor is currently in the Lotus Evora 414E, Jaguar Limo Green and more, the news source reported.

Lee Jeffocat, the chief project engineer, said that no car manufacturer has signed up yet but says there are a number of small-scale car companies that are also interested in the newly designed engine.

The motor comes in two versions - a 1.3-liter and a 1.2-liter that can achieve 47 hp and 67 hp respectively. The company is currently creating a two-cylinder engine as well, reported the news source.

In addition, there are a few other companies that are offering similar powertrains, such as AVL from Australia and Mahle, located in Germany.
