Lincoln's 2011 hybrid car gets an average of 39 miles per gallon, making it the top hybrid sedan of 2011. 06/22/2011
Lincoln's MKZ Hybrid sedan has the best combined fuel economy of 2011 hybrid cars, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. The luxury car gets 41 miles per gallon (MPG) in the city and 36 on the highway, giving it a combined 39 MPG. The Honda CR-Z, which has an automatic transmission, comes in at a close second with a combined MPG of 37.

Porsche and BMW both put new models of hybrid cars on the market this year as well, but neither the Cayenne Hybrid nor either version of BMW's ActiveHybrid came close to breaking 30 MPG. This may be unfortunate for the luxury carmakers, as Lincoln's and Honda's vehicles are significantly less expensive and perform better.

Cars.com reports that Honda and Lincoln have both fitted their cars with I-4 engines, which consist of four cylinders that are mounted in a straight line on the crankshaft, while BMW's ActiveHybrid is built with a V8 engine and the Cayenne Hybrid has a V6. When you're thinking about buying a new car, it may come down to power versus fuel economy.
