Lincoln MKZ vs Cadillac CTS 01/03/2011
In terms of luxury cars, the domestic brands often get lost in the shuffle as drivers gravitate toward German or Japanese models. While BMW and Lexus top many shoppers' lists, brands like Lincoln and Cadillac can still offer drivers great value.
The Lincoln MKZ and Cadillac CTS are two flagship sedans that retail for around $35,000. Drivers can't really go wrong with either of these vehicles, but one is a slightly better purchase than the other.
In terms of performance, the MKZ holds a slight edge over the CTS. The CTS may get 7 more horsepower, but the MKZ outclasses the Cadillac with nearly 30 more lb-ft of torque. In addition, the MKZ achieves better fuel economy with 18 city/27 highway mpg compared to the CTS' 16/26. The figures are close, and many will prefer the exterior styling and prestige of the CTS to the MKZ's slightly more subdued features.
There's also a slight difference in the warranties that are worth noting. The CTS powertrain is covered for five years or 100,000 miles, while the MKZ gets six years/70,000 miles. Since most drivers average about 12,000 miles per year, the MKZ's extra year of coverage is a bit more practical. However, those who plan on exceeding 70,000 miles in five years should consider the added benefit of the CTS' coverage.
Inside, the MKZ really pulls ahead of the CTS. Ford's SYNC system comes standard, allowing for iPod hookup and Bluetooth connectivity - both optional features on the Cadillac. It also features parking assist and heated seats, making it a bit better value than the otherwise-solid CTS.
