Lincoln MKZ Hybrid priced the same as gas model 07/26/2010

Good news for hybrid fans: Lincoln has announced that the hybrid version of its 2011 MKZ luxury sedan will be priced the same as its gasoline-powered counterpart.

The decision makes Lincoln the first automaker to offer hybrid and gas models at the same price. Usually, the expensive cost of hybrid technology constitutes a several-thousand dollar price increase for hybrids, and consumers must weigh the benefits at the pump against the extra initial cost.

"Customers are very enthusiastic about the MKZ Hybrid and we think they will be even more excited to learn they sacrifice nothing to be able to go green in style," said John Felice, general manager of Lincoln and parent company Ford's marketing divisions.

The Lincoln MKZ offers a multitude of other features, such as Ford's Sync technology. Ford was quick to point out that the vehicle's $35,180 price tag is less than its nearest competitor, the Lexus HS 250h.

So, why would any consumer opt for the gas-powered model? The answer is that the gas-powered V-6 engine still slightly outstrips the hybrid's inline 2.5-liter I-4. However, the I-4 is still no slouch, with this particular build being named one of Ward's "10 Best Engines," an annual list that rates engines on a variety of factors such as power and efficiency.ADNFCR-3028-ID-19904398-ADNFCR
