Lincoln MKX vs GMC Yukon SLE 03/25/2011
The Lincoln MKX and GMC Yukon SLE represent two different philosophies when it comes to larger vehicles, with the MKX a fine example of the recent trend toward fuel-efficient crossovers and the Yukon recalling the full-size SUVs of old. So which of these similarly-priced vehicles is ultimately the better value?
At $39,375, the MKX is just a touch more expensive than the Yukon at $39,535. The warranties are a bit different - the MKX's 6 year/70,000 miles lasts longer, but the Yukon's 5 year/100,000 miles will be useful to drivers who plan on racking up the mileage.
Drivers will be getting more power out of the Yukon's V8 than the MKX's V6 offering. The GMC produces 320 horsepower and 335 lb-ft of torque, beating out Lincoln's 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. However, those looking for fuel economy will prefer the MKX, which gets 19/26 mpgs compared to 15/21 for the Yukon.
Both cars feature luxury interiors, but we prefer the MKX thanks to its heated seats, parking assistance and keyless ignition, which all come standard. The MKX even matches the venerable OnStar system on the GMC in the form of Ford's Sync.
In the end, however, the Yukon SLE wins out, as it provides a substantial power upgrade for a cheaper price.
