Lincoln MKT vs Volkswagen Touareg 04/01/2011
The price of SUVs can rise pretty quickly, as outfitting these large vehicles with massive engines and tons of features can get quite costly. For drivers who don't want to skimp on any of the extras, $45,000 is about what they can expect to pay. We recently compared two SUVs at that price point, the Lincoln MKT and Volkswagen Touareg, to see if they were worth the money.
These vehicles are very close in price, although the MKT is just slightly less expensive at $44,240 than the Touareg at $44,450. Lincoln offers the better warranty, with 6 years/70,000 miles beating Volkswagen's 5 years/60,000 miles.
In terms of horsepower, the Touareg has the edge with 280 hp compared to 268 for the MKT. That said, the MKT holds a marginal advantage in torque at 267 lb-ft compared to 265 for the Volkswagen.
The interiors of both vehicles are very nice, but the MKT really goes the extra mile. Drivers will get keyless ignition, parking assistance and the Ford SYNC system all standard. Perhaps best of all, the MKT can be equipped with a rear-seat DVD, an option not available on the Volkswagen.
Altogether, we prefer the interior and superior warranty on the MKT, as the price and power are pretty much even on these two vehicles.
