Land Rover LR4 vs Porsche Cayenne 02/02/2011
It's not unusual for vehicles marketed under the Porsche or Land Rover brands to retail north of $100,000, but both companies have released models designed to appeal to upscale families who don't want to spend that much on a secondary vehicle.

The Land Rover LR4 and Porsche Cayenne are closely matched in price, although the Land Rover is $50 cheaper at $47,650 compared to the Cayenne at $47,700.

Looking at the performance specifications, the Cayenne and LR4 immediately divide drivers into those who favor performance and those who favor efficiency. The LR4 offers drivers highly-increased performance in the form of a V8 engine that produces 375 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. However, its abysmal 12 city/17 highway mpg rating will raise the eyebrows of eco-friendly consumers. The Porsche, meanwhile, produces 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque while putting up a slightly more respectable 15/22 mpg rating.

On the interior, however, the Land Rover really takes the cake, by offering keyless ignition, parking assistance and a premium sound system as standard features, something that the Cayenne simply can't match. It won't please the green-minded consumer, but the LR4 is the better choice for drivers.
