Lamborghini considering four-door Estoque 08/09/2010
Despite being quiet since debuting the four-door Estoque sedan at the Paris Auto Show in 2008, Lamborghini is still considering adding the model to its current two-car lineup, according to new comments made by CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
MotorTrend reports that the Murcielago and Gallardo may soon have a slightly larger sedan supercar brother in the form of the Estoque, if Lamborghini execs approve production designs for the new model, which would be the first four-door Lamobrghini ever.
"A third model would fit Lamborghini very well," Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told the news source. "A four-door car would be a very feasible approach."
The Estoque would be the latest in a four-door craze among luxury and supercar makers, joining the Maserati Quattroporte, Porsche Panamera, Rolls-Royce Ghost and Aston Martin Rapide as new vehicles that broke from their company's typical offerings.
Four-door models have sold well, and many analysts believe that the supercar segment will soon see a period of recovery after struggling during the economic recession. IHS Automotive expects sales in the $200,000 to $400,000 range to increase by up to 70 percent this year, which is likely where the Estoque would be priced.
