Kia posts record sales, revenue and profit in 2010 02/07/2011
Korean carmaker Kia posted record highs for annual net profit and sales in 2010, reports The Associated Press.
Last year, the company sold 2.13 million vehicles worldwide, representing a 39 percent increase over its sales volume from the year before.
This strong sales figure lead to record highs in terms of revenue, earning the company 23.3 trillion won - the equivalent of $20.8 billion. This revenue total was 26 percent higher than Kia's 2009 total.
Similarly, thanks to the record revenue, the company posted a record high net profit as well, totaling 2.25 trillion won ($2.02 billion), a full 55 percent higher than the profit figure from the year before.
Part of the increase in revenue, profit and sales came from the 2009 opening of Kia's manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia. The factory produced and sold approximately 167,000 vehicles last year.
Other markets saw steep increases in sales as well. Kia sales in China in 2010 rose 38 percent from the year before, while European sales rose a full 53 percent from 2009 levels.
