Jaguar is currently in the process of developing a production version of the C-X75 hybrid luxury car. 07/18/2011
Last September, Jaguar showed off the C-X75 at the Paris Motor Show. Popular Mechanics was of the opinion that the hybrid vehicle would never make it to the production stage, but the new car should be rolling off the assembly line sometime between 2013 and 2015. The British automaker plans to build only 250 cars, which are going to be priced between $1.1 million and $1.5 million.

"We were always determined that the Jaguar C-X75 would be as striking on the road as it was in concept form," said Ian Callum, Jaguar's director of design. "This will be the finest looking and most innovative Jaguar ever produced."

When the concept car was first unveiled, it had a twin gas-powered turbine system, but the production model will wind up with a more conventional gasoline-powered engine, which will be connected to four electrical motors at each axle, allowing the hybrid car to offer all-wheel drive, Popular Science reports. Williams F1 will be assisting Jaguar with the development of the hybrid system and the chassis that supports it.

The automaker projects that the new car will be able to climb from zero to 60 in less than three seconds and reach speeds up to 200 miles per hour.
