Jaguar XK vs BMW 650i 03/21/2011
Choosing between a Jaguar or a BMW is a nice problem to have, but that doesn't make it any less difficult. To make things a bit easier, we compared the Jaguar XK and BMW 650i coupes to see which offered lucky drivers the better value.
The Jaguar XK will set you back a cool $83,000, while the 650i is just slightly cheaper at $78,450. Jaguar backs the XK with an extra year on the powertrain warranty at 5 years/50,000 miles. BMW offers the same mileage coverage but only goes 4 years.
Both cars have a V8, but the Jaguar gets the better engine, with 385 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. It also attains 1 more mpg on both city and highway. The 650i is no slouch however, producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft.
The Jaguar's interior is also slightly nicer, with features like heated seats, satellite radio and keyless ignition all standard. The 6 Series does have the nice "BMW Assist" system, however.
In the end we feel that it's safe to say that the Jaguar is superior in pretty much every way - except for the price tag. If money is no object, that's not really a problem, but the BMW is close enough to the XK that taking it plus an extra $5,000 in your pocket is ultimately the better deal.
