Hertz hourly rental program will offer all-electric Smart Fortwo 12/10/2010
People looking for an all-electric way to get around town can take advantage of the new addition of the Smart Fortwo to the Connect by Hertz program, which allows users to rent cars by the hour.
Hertz will begin offering the Fortwo in its hourly rental program in New York later this month, reports the Los Angeles Times. The rental car giant also has plans to bring the tiny vehicle to the program in Washington, D.C. and San Francisco sometime later.
"We are thrilled to place vehicles with Hertz and offer consumers the opportunity to experience the joy of driving a Smart Fortwo while showcasing the benefits of electric technology," Jill Lajdziak, president of Smart USA, told the source.
According to Smart USA's website, the electric Fortwo produces no emissions and can be powered up at a 100 or 220-volt socket. The 16.5 kilowatt-hour lithium battery, which powers the 30 kilowatt rear motor, takes between 3.5 and 8 hours to be fully charged and is expected to have a maximum range of 85 miles.
