GM has been seeing a turnaround in sales 05/06/2011
Following the devastation that rocked Japan, the country's auto industry has not been the same. However, this has meant that American vehicle manufacturers are actually seeing an increase in their sales, as many domestic automakers posted positive April numbers.
The Detroit News reports that General Motors (GM) and Ford experienced surges in sales this past month, indicating that more people are turning to domestic brands for their transportation needs. The news provider reports that because more consumers are looking for fuel-efficient vehicles in order to combat the high gas prices, smaller cars such as the Ford Focus have been major selling points.
GM had the biggest gain last month for U.S. automakers, increasing sales by 26.6 percent. Additionally, the Kansas City Business Journal reports that Ford increased its sales by 24.5 percent.
The news provider reports that Ford still saw a number of purchases of its F-150 truck, as the company brought in a new V6 EcoBoost engine.
"The EcoBoost engine is the right engine for the right time," Ken Czubay, Ford vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, said in a release. "It provides the industry's only 'no compromise' solution, delivering both the capability and fuel efficiency truck buyers really want."
