Ford customized and donated a 2012 Mustang GT to benefit the EAA's Young Eagles program. 07/22/2011
Ford recently donated a customized 2012 Mustang GT to the Experimental Aircraft Association to honor the 100th anniversary of naval aviation. The new car, which was designed with aviation in mind, will be auctioned off at the EEA AirVenture to benefit the EAA Young Eagles program, which has been taking interested young people on free flights for nearly 20 years.

The "Blue Angels" Mustang pays tribute to its namesake, using a blue and yellow color scheme to reflect the colors of the fighter group. The exterior style, with vertical tailfins and a custom spoiler, was modeled after the F-18 Hornet, Inside Line reports.

Under the hood, the GT has a supercharged 5-liter V8 Ford Racing engine that generates 624 horsepower. The interior boasts leather Recaro racing seats with the Blue Angels emblem. One of the coolest customizations has to be the specially designed puddle lamps. When the doors are open, the lights at the bottom cast silhouettes of jets onto the ground.

The week-long event will also feature air shows, entertainment, shopping, and plenty of old, new and unique aircraft - including fighter jets from the World War II era and the only functioning SB2C helldiver Navy dive bomber in the world.
